Hiii readers, how are you? *Slams head into wall* HOW IS IT JULY I CAN’T BELIEVE IT’S JULY!! Don’t get me wrong, I love July, it’s hot, my birthday is this month, I’m on summer vacation, the year is halfway over. . .
But I also hate July.
It’s blazing hot, I’M ALMOST 17, my AP English homework lurks over my summer vacation, and the YEAR IS HALF OVER. I’m gone, guys, this year is too quick to be real. Oh well, as soon as I found this tag I knew I needed to do ASAP.
The Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag is a tag which allows us readers and bloggers to celebrate the books we’ve read the first half of the year, as we panic on how behind we all are on our Goodreads challenge.
I was tagged in the Mid Year Book Freak Out tag by Liv or curlyhairbibliophile, which is shocking since I usually just do these anyway, regardless of being tagged. Today, it seems, I follow the rules. I hope you enjoy my bookish freak out below ❤
Best books you’ve read in 2017
Since this is my blog, I can pick not just one, but multiple books because that’s how I do hehe 🙂 My favorite books of 2017 are (probably in order) When Dimple Met Rishi, The Hate U Give, and Tash Hearts Tolstoy find my review here. A majority of what I’ve read in 2017 has been #ownvoices diverse novels and I highly highly recommend those books if you’re looking for something fresh and hard-hitting in YA.
Best sequel you’ve read in 2017
IT’S GOTTA BE A Crown of Wishes. I don’t know about you, but I found The Star-Touched Queen to be a really slow-paced, confusing book. However, I love mythology and POC books, so I decided to pick up the sequel companion, ACoW. AND I READ IT IN A DAY. Wow, so fantastic. I can’t wait to see what else Roshani blesses us readers with.
New release you haven’t read yet, but want to
Once again, I have multiple. Both by V.E. Schwab, actually. I want to read Our Dark Duet and A Conjuring of Light. I’m procrastinating reading them cause I need to buy them, and I just paid for like 9 queer books in June and a girl can’t afford to buy every book she wants, okay?? I’ll get there, eventually.
Most anticipated release for rest of 2017
WARCROSS. Probably They Both Die in the End. I think Forest of a Thousand Lanterns. Gimme all the diverse book releases this year 🙂
Definitely ACOWAR. After all the positive hype from Instagram, and negative from Twitter, I wasn’t sure about this book. I’m not a ditcher, I was going to finish this trilogy, dammit. However, while ACOMAF was fantastic
nonetheless problematic ACOWAR was not *just* problematic, but a slow-paced, fatal train wreck.
I’d have to say Ramona Blue. Once again, a book predominantly criticized for being “heteronormative” RB isn’t so much about being turned straight, but the complexity of fluidity and sexuality. And I can’t speak for other queer bloggers, but I really enjoyed Ramona Blue when I read it during pride month.
Favorite new author
Sandhya Menon of When Dimple Met Rishi is the biggest sweetheart, omg. She is always there to interact with followers and occasionally tweets me, ME! Also Kathryn Orsmbee, who wrote Tash Hearts Tolstoy, just for putting an ace character in YA as wonderful as Tash Zelenka.
Newest fictional crush
RISHI PATEL. Enough said.
Newest favorite character
NATASHA ZELENKA, WHO MAKES MY ASEXUAL HEART SOAR WITH JOY.
Book that made you cry
No book so far this year had me bawling, but Something in Between and History is All You Left Me had me emotional™ at one point.
Book that made you happy
To name a few: When Dimple Met Rishi, Queens of Geek, Always and Forever, Lara Jean, The Color Project, Tash Hearts Tolstoy, Not Your Sidekick. . .SO MANY GREAT BOOKS BRINGING TEARS TO MY EYES. Don’t worry, it’s happy tears 🙂
Favorite book to movie adaptation you saw this year
OKAY DON’T FLAME ME but probably Everything, Everything. I really liked the book when I read it in 2015, but it’s not 2015. The plot very ableist and I won’t go into further details, but problems aside, the book to movie translation was very well written (beside the whole race swapping of the mother oh god why couldn’t there be another YA movie this year??) but you know what, I think I’m just gonna go. . .Sorry, I haven’t watched any other book movie adaptations this year. Hopefully Wonder will be better.
Can I say comic to movie adaptation? Wonder Woman was BOMB.
Favorite review you’ve written this year
TASH HEARTS TOLSTOY, definitely. It was so wonderful expressing my thoughts on an asexual story from an asexual blogger. Tash Hearts was a cute contempoary with a cuter MC and I linked the review above, but if you missed that I’ll link it here as well.
Most beautiful book you’ve bought this year
A Flame in the Mist. Always and Forever, Lara Jean. When Dimple Met Rishi. A Crown of Wishes. Under Rose-Tainted Skies. SO MANY BEAUTIFUL BOOKS WITH EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL STORIES.
Which books do you need to read by the end of the year
A list: Our Dark Duet, A Conjuring of Light, The Upside of Unrequited, Warcross, Crooked Kingdom, Vengeance Road, The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, and so so so many more I swear the more books the better
I say as I add another book to my stack as it collapses onto me.
I hope you liked this tag! I don’t feel like tagging anyone, so if you would like to do this, just say that I tagged you ❤ That way everyone wins! 2017 isn’t perfect, but that doesn’t mean my reading can’t be so here’s to the second half the year and may it bring us good luck and lots of diverse marginalized books. *toasts cup*
