Spring Reading Update 2018

Hello readers!

You all: JILL WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN??

Unless, you haven’t even noticed I left for two and a half months, for the second time this year.

So, yes. I’ve been missing. But A LOT HAS HAPPENED, I think. I don’t know. I just look forward to writing these snippets of my life in blog posts that frankly no one asked for but I’m glad y’all want to read them.

Not to mention, this is a spring reading update, and summer officially begins next week. Please ignore my procrastination.

If you’ve been here before, you know how it goes. I dive into what I’ve been reading, writing, studying, watching. . .and my general life updates.

Let’s get started.

Reading

I started 2018 with a Goodreads goal of 80, but then I bumped it down to 70 so I didn’t overwhelm myself. However, I currently read 42 books out of 70, which is well over half, so if I can keep up my momentum I’m definitely going for 80 books. I think I can do it!

I’m going to sift through my favorite books I’ve read (at least 10 of them) which is going to be difficult, but I’m going to try woo 🙂

Fave Books of 2018 (so far) (rereads don’t count, not in specific order)

  • Thunderhead by Neil Shusterman
  • Let’s Talk About Love by Claire Kann
  • They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
  • Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
  • The Astonishing Color of After by Emily X.R. Pan
  • Save the Date by Morgan Matson
  • Emergency Contact by Mary H.K. Choi
  • Love, Hate, and Other Filters by Samira Ahmed
  • Autoboyography by Christina Lauren
  • Scythe by Neil Shusterman

So, hopefully you see some of your faves, let me know in the comments!

I’m currently in the middle of my pride month tbr, which has included Tash Hearts Tolstoy (reread), Before I Let Go, Call Me By Your Name, and Would You Rather. Next, I want to read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Girl Made of Fire and Stars, and You Know Me Well. . .it’ll be great.

I took a brief break in reading to focus on AP testing and finals. I want to assert that it’s totally okay to not always be reading, even if bloggers on social media might make you feel like a slower reader. . .you’re reading, and that’s all that matters!

Writing

I haven’t been writing much, easier. I started writing a new story, but only a few chapters cause I have to plot the rest. I wrote a good 7,000 words for Camp NaNo in April, but not much more, since school trapped me in a hold around that time.

Moreover, Camp NaNo July is creeping upon me, and I HAVE NOTHING PLANNED?? Meanwhile some bloggers are sending manuscript requests, I can’t even find the motivation to plot my own books! *slams head on keyboard*

But there’s some good news.

I got offered a spot to write for Frolic Media! *cue confetti cannon*

It’s a super epic site for bloggers like myself, and it’s a great opportunity since I want to pursue writing later in life.

Here’s the link to my first post, on YA books and asexuality.

Don’t worry, I’ll still be posting here, since I can write whatever I want when I want on my own blog hehe 🙂

School

Like most teens in the US, I’m on summer vacation. I’ve been on break for almost two weeks, actually. I had a bonfire with my friends to celebrate and everything.

I took my AP English Language and Comp test, took my finals, and finished junior year. I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed, really, that senior year is slowly creeping up on me. I’ll worry about that when the time comes. For now, I’m enjoying my summer break *stretches arms out and continues to drink a giant glass of water cause it’s super humid here*

Watching

As much as I want to, I’m only binging YouTube lately. But I’m soon going to get a trial for Hulu and watch The Handmaid’s Tale and as much of Brooklyn 99 as I can (since both seem like fan faves.) And I might get to Game of Thrones later this summer if I can manage to get my hands on HBO. . .wish me luck.

I’ve also been considering rewatching Parks and Rec, but at the moment I’m a little more eager to watching new shows like Handmaid’s or B99. Comment your favorite shows below if you’d love to recommend anything!

I recently saw these movies: Deadpool, Deapool 2, The Incredibles, The Incredibles 2. Not an coincidence, I like to catch up when sequels release.

Life Updates

I’m not a busy person *looks into pile of trash* but I’ll see what life updates. . .*sifting through trash, tossing some behind me* I can find. . .

Anyway, there’s a big one.

I started getting counseling for my anxiety! I’ve been getting to know my counselor a little better since early May (this is pretty personal but I love sharing and being honest with all of you) and it’s been really nice so far talking through some things.

In other news, I went on a five day retreat to Florida with my mom in late May. It rained everyday, but it was warm and sunny occasionally. I got to visit my favorite town, Fort Myers, and spend some time away from school and home.

That’s basically it for my life, I have some things planned for the rest of the summer but you’ll likely hear about those things in my summer reading update, at this rate, though, that most likely won’t be posted until late September *wink* hopefully I get my crap together before then.

Thanks for catching up with me this spring, even if it’s super late and the first you’ve heard from me in months. I swear, I’m doing alright. And I hope you all are, too.

Thanks for reading, everyone! What have you been up to lately? Let me know in the comments!

xoxo,

Jill
