Spring 2019 Reading Update

I’ll be honest, guys. Even though I just posted a book review and by just posted I mean a month ago but it’s been so long since I got to sit down and just t a l k with you all. So here it is, my long overdue post where I can just talk about what I’ve been reading, watching, doing, studying, etc. All that fun stuff (minus the studying.)

So let’s begin!

Reading

As usual, senior year is BUSTING MY BUTT so I haven’t read as many books as I’d like to. However, in the past few months, I’ve read quite a number of fantastic books! In mid to late 2018 I adored

  • The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
  • Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy
  • Next Year in Havana
  • Circe
  • Crazy Rich Asian trilogy
  • The Devil’s Thief
  • Emma

And in 2019 so far, I’ve loved Gmorning, Gnight!, Fangirl (reread), Enchantée (check out my review here!) and Aru Shah and the End of Time.

So yeah even if I’m reading less I’m really loving the books I read! Besides the ones forced on me for AP English, of course. We’re currently reading Hamlet in class and I couldn’t 🙂 be 🙂 happier :):)

I never got around to writing a blog post about my favorite 2018 books and anticipated 2019 reads, but I wanted to quickly share my reading goal of 2019. Ehem, drumroll, please—

50 BOOKS!

This is no surprise since I ‘m starting college in the fall and am not sure how much I’ll be reading especially considering I was trash at my commitment to reading during my SENIOR YEAR  but I’m hoping to read most of my goal by the summer so I don’t have to worry in the fall *insert sunglasses emoji*

I hope you’ve all read more than I did in these past few months! Perhaps as my last year of high school winds down, I can pick up some of the books that have sat on my shelves for months (ah, let’s hope.)

Watching

Truthfully, I’ve watched even less TV and movies than I’ve been reading. However, I successfully completed my movie challenge of 52 movies in a year for 2018 (I watched 3 in the span of 24 hours, don’t judge me!) and hope to watch 30-40 in 2019. So far I’ve seen….5—oh, okay nevermind then.

My fave films of 2018 summed up would probably be Call Me By Your Name, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Love, Simon, The Big Sick, Avengers Infinity War, Lady Bird, Anna Karenina, and that’s just a few.

And what I’ve watched in 2019 so far includes The Breakfast Club, Eighth Grade, Beautiful Boy, Jane Eyre, and Lion. I really liked them (Jane Eyre was just okay, but otherwise the films are a must!)

Although, since I watched the Oscars I now have several more films on my wishlist! I’m definitely intrigued by The Favourite and Roma (which is conveniently on Netflix so there might be a movie night in the next few weeks. . .)

As for TV, I’ve been LOVING Brooklyn Nine-Nine. It’s definitely one of my all-time favorite shows since I began watching it back in July last year. I also can’t wait for Jane the Virgin season 5 at the end of March! (It’ll be a bittersweet excitement, for sure, since it’s the last season, but that cliffhanger ending was brutal!)

Let me know in the comments what you’ve been watching lately! I could use some great recommendations!

Listening

At the end of 2018, I listened to Khalid’s new EP Suncity and lots of music from the Italian pop singer Annalisa (trust me it’s good stuff!) and that was pretty much it for like three months. But since 2019 started, I’ve been really jamming to Conan Gray, Ashe, Ariana Grande, & Dodie. But also I’ve been using Spotify to keep track of my fave artists’ new songs 🙂 In particular, Used to It by Ashe, Sweet but Psycho by Ava Max, and Generation Why by Conan Gray are among my ultimate faves!

Let me know in the comments what you’ve been listening to recently! I would totally love to hear!

Studying

Lately I’ve embraced my Instagram acc as a studygram so it’s been very motivating to follow all of the posts about note-taking, journaling, and everything under the study sun. I aspire to be half as productive as some of those studygrammers.

Even though I’m entering into the second half of my last semester of high school next week, I’m certainly not cruising for the rest of my senior year. With two AP classes and one college writing class, all I could use is a break, honestly. Hopefully I can get a passing score on both of my AP tests otherwise that was a waste of time. (Am I kidding? Eh, only a little.)

Truthfully, I feel a bit unprepared (perhaps?) for my senior prom and graduation. I don’t know if I’m ready to say goodbye to my friends and my high school (I certainly don’t love it there but college, although I’ve applied and visited several, still feel like a large overbearing monster ready to chomp me up and spit me out was that too descriptive?) But you know, maybe I’ll face it when it comes! I’m sure I got this *fist bump* but I could use a little bit of luck!

Hopefully, I can enjoy my last few months of senior year and not stress too much about what comes after—but I make no promises.

That makes for a great segue to discussing mental health!

Feeling

As of last year, I’m still going to therapy and taking setraline! I think I’ve felt better, but maybe as many of you might know that there’s ups and downs with mental health, and not just a worse-to-better narrative. And yet, around this time last year I didn’t feel too optimistic about my future after high school, however I feel a bit more confident since a few colleges have accepted me and I have done relatively well my senior year. (Let’s keep our fingers crossed that my first choice school accepts me within the next week! I’ve been waiting for so long!)

So here’s a reminder to take things as they come and live in the moment—I struggle with both of these but I hope you thrive even more 🙂

Thanks so much for reading! I hope you have a fantastic day!

xoxo,

Jill
